Artifact Analysis

RSA Animate uses both discursive and non-discursive rhetoric in order to drive the point across.  The balance between the two is remarkable in the eleven minute video. The animated drawings and text occur simultaneously with Sir Ken Robinson’s speech about changing education paradigms.  He argues that education should go in the exact opposite direction of standardization, citing that he does not understand why the education system still sorts kids by age.  He challenges, “Is this the most important thing about them?  The date of manufacture?”  He goes on to say that he knows kids who are better than other kids the same age in different subjects “or even different times of the day.”  His speech is originally given in an hour-long lecture at an RSA event, but RSA Animate takes about eleven minutes from places of the speech, pastes them together, and sets his words to text and images.
